About Us

Providence V is skippered and owned by Grant Lewis and his wife Lindsay who bought her in May 2005. Between them, they have five children, Elliot, James, Oscar, Phoebi and Jess. The family have fallen in love with Magnetic Island which is also their home. Providence starred in the movie "Survive the Savage Sea", a story of a family on board their schooner cast adrift in the Pacific Ocean.

Your Skipper, Grant Lewis was born in Tasmania. He owned his first crayboat at the age of 18 and has been into boats ever since. He has been a tuna fisherman, a sea urchin diver and a commercial diver. Grant also worked as a skipper on the luxury ferries which run from Hobart to Peppermint Bay in Tasmania.

Grant is a Master Four skipper and his passion is sailing and - as a true Tasmanian - wooden boats.

Lindsay's first passion is for literature and she shares Grant's dream that one day they will sail around the world. On their honeymoon, she managed to carry two Bloody Marys from the galley in high seas without spilling a drop - much to Grant's approval. She is the author and co-author of six books of nonfiction and has recently published her first novel, The Curer of Souls with Vintage.
